Creating A Woodland Wedding Theme

With a return to nature in the style of our homes and floral prints in our clothing, it's little wonder that more and more brides are opting for natural wedding themes. Guaranteed to be a popular choice for this season is the woodland wedding theme and this article seeks to provide key style ideas for any bride wanting to adopt this idea for her big day.

In an ideal world, your marriage service will take place in the woods. However, if this is not possible, you will just have to work harder at bringing the woodland to your guests through your venue decor instead.

When guests enter your wedding, they need to have an instant feel of the outdoors. Use branches, leaves and artificial trees throught the room and hire artificial grass as a floor covering. Bunch wildflowers into jam jars and scatter the tables with natural petals. The rustic country theme with place settings write guests' names on leaves or buy topiary tree place card holders. Alternatively, feature twisted twigs as your 'floral' centrepieces and adorn them with butterflies and dragonflies. Surround the centrepiece with natural moss and bark pieces for added effect.

Have your thought about using birds as a theme for your woodland wedding? You can do this by locating birdcages as your centrepieces; fill them with fresh blooms and pretty bird figurines on wire stems. Wire stemmed butterflies would also look great on birdcages. As before, you can follow this theme across other areas such as your favours; give guests chocolate eggs laid in raffia nests or pretty favour boxes decorated with butterflies.

Anything that features a red and white toadstool would look great at your reception you could base your table plan around this idea. Insert a table number into the top of each toadstool to direct guests to their seats. Name each table after a woodland creature such as 'Squirrels' or 'Badgers.' Treat guests to coconut mushroom favours presented to co-ordinating boxes or bags. Homemade cookies would also be in keeping with this theme and these could be pre-made in toadstool, squirrel or badger shapes!

Further woodland style favour ideas might come in the form of personalised wild flower seedkits, chocolate bars featuring trees and twigs or even dried flowers presented in organza bags. Alternatively, give guests anything you like as long as it is presented in accordance with the theme, i.e. finish the box with a daisy flower, butterfly or dragonfly gem.

Tie in the daisy, butterfly or dragonfly theme with your wedding cake. Wedding cakes can be produced in many shapes and styles so it would be worth speaking to your cake maker in reference to any woodland themed ideas they may have.

Make sure that your guests are bowled over by your wedding cake; this really could be a real focal point in your reception room. Whether you want a cake in the shape of a toadstool, heavily adorned with forest butterflies or simply dripping with local forest fruits, your cake maker will surely have some ideas.
