Wedding Styles From Around The World

If you are passionate about your roots or simply inspired by a specific culture, here are some ways in which you can get international style at your wedding reception.

Let's start with the European weddings as it was countries such as France and Italy who introduced us to the wedding favour itself. To create a French themed wedding, this should naturally take place outdoors and the meal should be rustic and simple. Lay tables with fresh cut local flowers and present breads in wooden bowls. Give guests French Onion soup starters, Coq au Vin for main and finish your meal with delicious local cheeses. Guests should be favoured with traditional sugared almonds or Parisian themed mint tins.

When it comes to Italian weddings, herbs in terracotta pots are a great way to bring a Tuscan feel to any event. Floral arrangements should naturally be in pure white and green. Big multi-tiered wedding cakes are typical of Italian weddings so make this your show stopping centrepiece. Decorate your venue with bunches of grapes and anything to do with olives. Fabulous Italian favours might be in the form of Biscotti, mini bottles of wine, olive oil favours or sugared almonds in co-ordinating favour boxes.

Another locality hot on the big wedding cake idea is America and Canada. Cupcake towers should soar above the guests like the Empire state building and decor should be eye-catching and spectacular. Guests have come to expect lavish, exciting and show-stopping style at the weddings of the elusive Americans, so don't let them be disappointed with anything less. Great favour ideas for Canadians are mini maple syrup bottles or maple leaf candy presented in co-ordinating organza bags. American favours that pack a punch might be novelty shaped cookies in cute carry-out boxes or personalised coffee packs.

Now, we move to Africa to give us some inspirational ideas for wedding style. Bright colours, tropical themed and animals are heavily featured in these weddings. Cowrie shells are said to be traditional at African weddings a perfect way to hold those place cards. When it comes to favours, elephant candles, soapstone heart boxes, wooden salad servers or kola nut favours are ideal gifts for guests.

In contrast, Asian weddings will often bring sophistication and style to the fore as well a splash of colour. Tables are usually bursting with red and gold colours as well as intricate detailing. The best favours for such a theme would be fan favours, chopsticks tied with personalised ribbon, fortune cookie favours or personalised chocolate bars featuring Henna prints. Japanese brides might wish to give guests sweets in traditional sake cups or colourful origami cranes as favours.

In contrast, the British brides are more subdued in the style stakes and will wish to bring their heritage into the wedding theme. The rose embodies everything you would expect of England and naturally a typical bloom for a British themed wedding. Use the rose as your inspiration for wedding stationery, table decor, favours and venue embellishment. Red rose print chocolate bars will make stunning favours for a British themed wedding. For an Irish feel, focus on the shamrock for styling and give guests a Celtic charm favour. To add some Scottish flair, tie napkins with tartan ribbon and give guests handmade tablet as wedding favours.

We have travelled all over the world for wedding inspiration and can confirm that there are many quick and easy ways to bring the flavour of a country into your big day.
