Wedding Favours Containing 'Something Blue'

This year saw the revamp of purple wedding themes, but for those of you marrying next year, you will know that the trends are leaning towards blue wedding themes. Those in the wedding planning industry will agree that weddings being organized for next season are heavily focused on 'something blue' whether this be with hydrangea & hyacinths centrepieces, blue favour boxes, royal blue menu cards, pew ties in baby blue or even bridesmaids in navy. Whatever kind of blue it is, if you want to be bang on trend, let something blue become your mantra.

When wedding themes are focused on one main colour, there is no need to match all your tones together. In other words, if blue is your theme, you can remain stylish with an array of cobalt, navy, French, Wedgewood and pale blues all mixed in together. The variation in tones will give your tables so much depth and interest as guests enter your reception.

There are innumerable ways in which you can bring these different shades of blue into your table decor and across your wedding favours. One such idea is to give guests square boxes with lids with alternate bases and lids. In other words, mix and match blue bases with white lids and tie them with either white or blue organza ribbon. To complete the look you could tie co-ordinating organza ribbon on napkin rolls.

On the other hand, another way to make your favour boxes work well for you, is to use one style and colour of box but vary them with different shades of ribbon. Choose pale blue lari favour boxes and tie half of them with navy blue ribbon personalised with pale blue foil and the remaining half with pale blue ribbon personalised with navy blue foil. If personalising your favours takes you beyond your budget, you could tie half of your boxes in thick navy organza and finish them with thin pale blue satin ribbon and tie the remaining half with thick pale blue organza finished with thin navy satin ribbon. Either way, you are guaranteed to have very elegant wedding favours.

Traditional bomboniere nets and tulle are still hugely popular in this country probably due to their versatility. Using 2 to 3 nets per favour is best, though this will often be dependent on the type of tulle you are using. For thicker or two-tone nets, 2 will be enough to create the desired effect. For usual nets though, the best way of creating these items is to use 3 different colour nets and vary how you layer them. Your first favour would contain a navy net on top of a pale blue net on top of a white net. Then, your second favour would contain a pale blue net on a white net on top of a navy net and so on. If you are bunching all your wedding favours together either as a table centrepiece or in a basket, varying the colours and the order of the colours will look sensational. If choosing this option, it would look best to keep all the securing ribbon the same - it can look messy if you add too many variables keeping some elements is key for consistency.

What about using organza pouches? These are quick and easy to work with and make great wedding favours. Bring all your shades of blue in with organza pouches in navy, turquoise, pale blue and royal blue and fill them with navy chocolate dragees. This is an ideal solution for those who are having big weddings or when time and cost is an issue.

Whichever favour ideas you wish to incorporate into your blue themed wedding, remember that mixing many blues together can work really well provided blue is your predominant colour. Continue your blue wedding favour theme throughout your reception with the inclusion of blue napkin ties, blue confetti and blue floral arrangements.
